(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Jan. 24.
Police have now recovered about 14,000 forged 10-dollar notes. Business firms cashed 600 of the notes. Police seized the others in raids on houses.
The acting chief of the C. 1.8., Chief Inspector W. W. Mooney, said yesterday that one or two forgeries were still being detected every few days.
Forged 10-dollar notes were first detected on December 23. Eight people have been charged with offences relating to the printing and publishing of forged notes.
