WELLINGTON, Jan. 26

The record-breaking fortyfirst national yearling sales ended here today with the three-day aggregate pushed well beyond the 400,000 guinea mark. Buyers from Australia, South Africa, the United States and New Zealand, paid 435,669 guineas for 308 yearlings.

The previous best was the 1965 aggregate of 369,691 guineas. Last year's total was 303,260 guineas. This year’s average price was 141 i guineas, well up on the old record of 107 i set at the 1965 sale.

On the final morning of the sale today buyers gave 53,631 guineas for 39 lots. The top price was 6000 guineas paid by the Sydney trainer, A. J. Lyell, for a brown colt by Le Filou from the Knight’s Romance mare Naumai.
