Accrediting

Sir, —The district Superintendent of Education (Mr R. - L. Bradley), discussing the . accrediting results, reported • last Saturday, said: “After i all, those who are accredited i are Considered to be the best i pupils. Because of this they may have some slight advantage in getting jobs.” This raises the whole question of . the usefulness of this system. . All pupils should actually sit ,:the examination and the ; | border-line cases be assessed , for accrediting. This would be J a competitive result for those ] passing the examination with ] i some consideration for candi--1 dates who find tests a psychoil logical difficulty. The present .-system means that those put forward for actual examination are regarded by school staffs as being below average and in consequence suffer a , handicap from the start. In spite of the support of the [ system by the department, ' accrediting has never served a really useful purpose educa- : tionally.—Yours, etc., GRADUAND’S PARENT. January 21, 1967.
