Williams Two Wins In Tanner Cup

"The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. After winning this year’s first Tanner Cup race on Sunday, the Canterbury P class yachtsman, M. Willson, was able to notch only a seventh and a second at Evans Bay yesterday.

Yesterday’s races were both won by wide margins by the Bay of Plenty yacht Bolero, sailed by I. Williams. After the races several protests were lodged. The last two races will be sailed today. From being the tail-ender in the first race, the Nelson yacht, Midge, sailed by B. Gould, was first across the line at the start of the second race and drew away from the fleet. But Gould held his sheet in too hard on the run downwind and was overhauled and passed by the more experienced Williams. On the last lap a wind change from north to a steady southerly changed the order of the fleet and at the finish Bay of Plenty was followed by Northland, Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, Nelson, Waikato, Canterbury, Otago, West Coast, Wellington, Southland, Taranaki, Poverty Bay, Marlborough and WanganuiManawatu.

The afternoon race saw Wellington's Early Bird, sailed by A. Barratt, take the lead from the Auckland yacht Water Vixon, sailed by G. Berleme. These two were overtaken at the windward buoy by Hawke’s Bay’s Scud (R. Duckworth), Canterbury and Bay of Plenty. Bay of Plenty got the finishing gun with Canterbury,

Auckland, Northland, Wellington, Southland, Hawke’s Bay, Otago, West Coast, Nelson and Marlborough' following, then a large gap back to Waikato, WanganuiManawatu, Poverty Bay, and Taranaki.

N.Z. Dragons 15 And 18 (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PERTH. The two New Zealand entries in the national Dragon yacht championships put up disappointing performances in the sixth and final heat on Sunday. The two New Zealand entries, Barco Del Oro, skippered by D. St. Clair-Brown, and Komuto, skippered by R. Stone, finished 15th and 18th. A West Australian, A. Manford, won the national championship—his fourth—in Leander.
