READY TO JOIN WAR
Statement By China
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) HONG KONG, Jan. 15. China would go to North Vietnam’s aid if the situation warranted this and if the Vietnamese appealed for help, the vice-chairman of the Communist Party’s national defence commission, Mr Yeh Chien-ying, said last night. According to Radio Peking, he was speaking at a 10,000strong armed forces rally in Peking to welcome an Albanian military delegation.
Mr Yeh said the Chinese people were determined to make great national sacrifices to support the Vietnamese people to the end. “The Chinese people’s liberation army have made all preparations.”
New Politburo Member. — Marshal Hsu Hsiang-chien, who was installed last week as chairman of the overhauled committee to enforce the cultural revolution in China’s Army, has become a member of the Politburo.— Peking, January 15.
