EXPORTS FALL
U.K. Trade Balance ■ (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Jan. 15. Britain’s overseas trading balance moved into the red again last month after two months of surpluses, it was announced by the Board of Trade. Exports fell by £36 million to £439 million, while imports, boosted by the ending of the import surcharge at the end of November, rose by £7O million to £507 million. On direct trade—the buying and selling of goods—December showed ■ a deficit of £6B million, compared with a surplus of £3B million the previous month. But invisible exports, such as insurance and freight, reduced the over-all deficit to £24 million, compared with a £7B million surplus in November.
Prison Escape.—Three men, including a convicted murderer and another awaiting a murder trial, escaped from gaol in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, last night when a prison guard mistakenly pushed a button which opened the front gate.— Doyleston, January 15.
