ATTITUDE OF MAYOR
‘Toplessness’ In New York (N.Z P A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, Jan. 15. The Mayor of New York, Mr John Lindsay, entered the city’s “topless” controversy yesterday and said that seminude waitresses and entertainers must go. Mr Lindsay did not say when New York’s licence department would take action; against the four waitresses) and five “go-go” girls who were back on exhibition at the Crystal Room nightclub on Thursday night, after a three-judge court dismissed indecent exposure charges against them. But the Mayor did have a few words to say about “toplessness” itself. “It has no cultural value, no artistic value.” he said. "In most cases it’s a rather dreary show.”
