McNab Wins Croquet
(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU. J. M. McNab (Christchurch) beat F. W. Peters (Dunedin), 26-24, 26-18, to win the open event at the South Island croquet championships played at Timaru on Saturday. Results: — Championships doubles (playoff for runner-up): Mesdames J. Anderson (Dunedin), and M. Robertson (Christchurch) beat Mesdames V. Whitcombe and H. Bleasdale, 26-25.
Handicap Doubles.—Mrs H. Dempsey and J. Frewen beat Mrs Robertson and Mrs Bleasdale, 26-24; Porter and Mrs Porter beat F. W. Peters and Mrs Talbot, .26-16; Mrs Dempsey and Frewen beat Mesdames Peters and J. Jackson, 26-24. Semifinal; Mrs Dempsey and Frewen (Waimate) beat Porter and Mrs Porter, 26-22. Final.—D. J. Mickimmin and K. D. Mickimmin (Christchurch) beat Mrs Dempsey and Frewen, 26-23. Handicap Singles. Semifinal: Mrs Anderson beat Mrs A. Hewlett, 26-5; Mrs V. Whitcombe beat Mrs Peters, 26-13. Final: Mrs Whitcombe (Christchurch) beat Mrs Anderson, 26-17.
