7½lb Baby In Mini-Car
(N.Z. Preu Association) WELLINGTON. A 71b 7oz baby was born in a Mini Minor car on the way to Hutt Hospital yesterday. Mrs Pat Clarke, of Stokes Valley, started off to the hospital with her husband, Maurice, at 6.15 a.m., but about half-way there the baby started to arrive.
Mr Clarke did not stop and deliver the child. “I drove to the hospital as fast as I could.” There were a few anxious moments as he looked for staff but someone was soon located and delivery completed in the car. Mr and Mrs Clarke have two other children, Bruce, aged four, and Julie, aged two. Julie was bom within half an hour, said Mr Clarke.
