Australian Hopes Frustrated

BLOEMFONTEIN. Orange Free State, replying to the Australians’ total of six for 409, had scored 235 for nine at the close of the second day of the three-day match on Saturday. A fighting last-wicket stand between E. Cronje and D. Kuter frustrated Australia's hopes of establishing a big first innings lead. The pair were undefeated at stumps after adding 56 in 85 minutes. The provincial side needs another 25 runs to avert the follow-on.
The Australian leg spinner, I. Chappell, took the bowling honours with his four for 74 from 25 overs. But generally the Australian bowling lacked real penetration on an easypaced pitch.
