UMPIRE CHOSEN
Third Test At Durban (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) BLOEMFONTEIN. The South African Cricket Board has appointed the controversial umpire, Mr H. Kidson, to the third test starting in Durban next Friday in spite of official Australian team objections. Mr Kidson has been the centre of a series of doubtful decisions in the two tests played so far. The Australian team manager. Mr W. Jacobs, said: “We accept the South African Board’s decision graciously and we wish Mr Kidson well in the Durban test.’’ Mr Kidson is generally regarded as South Africa’s most experienced umpire. He has a background of eight test matches against New Zealand, England, and Australia. Play Stopped In Cup Game (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON. Rain washed out the two-day Hawke Cup elimination cricket match between Waikato and Northland at Cambridge yesterday. There was no play on Saturday and only 29 overs were possible yesterday in Northland’s first innings.
