Motocross To Hickman
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. An Englishman, K. Hickman, won the Wills international motocross event at Ohariu Valley; Wellington, yesterday. Hickman was slow away at the start, and was only third as the riders climbed the big hill for the first time. K. Cleghorn (Palmerston North), who led early, was soon overhauled by J. Burton (England) and then Hickman. Hickman steadily increased his lead until he lapped everyone except Burton.
With one race to go, Hickman now has an unbeatable lead in the international series of six. A rider who attracted much attention was G. Stapleton (New Brighton). Riding H. Anderson’s former 250 c.c. Husquavana-C-Zeta, Stapleton won the 350 c.c. and under classes. - He also finished high up in the international event where he appeared to lack only power to keep up with the leaders.
