MINOR FIRES
A radio and bureau were damaged by a small fire in the bedroom of a motel at the Hotel Russley, Roydvale avenue, on Saturday. The fire was put out with a fixed hose reel before the arrival of fire engines from the Harewood and St. Albans stations, called at 7.24 a.m. An engine from the Woolston station answered a call to a grass fire in a section near the corner of Garlands and Curries road at 12.43 p.m. on Saturday. There was no damage. An oven fire in a house occupied by Mr R. Campion, at 7 Nalder place was attended by an engine from the Woolston station at 11 a.m. yesterday. There was no damage.
Runaway Rugby.—The Auckland University Rugby team beat San Diego State, 51-0, on Saturday, in the first match of its six-game tour of the western United States.
