MIG AIR BASES
U.S. Attacks Possible
(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter— Copyright) WASHINGTON, January 15. General Earle Wheeler, chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on Friday that the United States eventually may have to attack MiG air bases in the Hanoi-Haiphong area until now off limits to American planes. On returning from South Vietnam, General Wheeler said: “We’ve managed to deal rather effectively with the MiGs so far.” He was referring to recent American dogfights with the North Vietnamese planes. But, he added, there “may come a time” when the United States would have to “do something about” the Communist bases around Hanoi and Haiphong.
