PALMERSTON NORTH. The trainer, E. Ropiha, who has five horses in the Pahiatua Cup today, said that he S tanned to start all of them track conditions are good. Rain yesterday could influence him against running Janevllle, but he will delay a decision until this morning. Ropiha has booked K. Aitken for Olympian and E. A. Gye for Caplin. H. N. Rauhihi may be offered the choice between Baloo and Summer Flight. The speedy Whittle, which was expected to make the pace In the Ballance Handicap, is not likely to start. She has been sore through the week, but she could be fit for the second day. Track conditions will hinge on last night’s weather, but a general improvement is expected. The footing will have the sting out of it and further rain would cause it to cut out. Alkira remains a firm fancy tor the Pahiatua Cup, although Summer Flight and Janevllle won friends with serviceable gallops late on Thursday. This will be Summer Flight’s first run over a middle distance for some time and the way he has been coming home at the end of his sprints suggests at least a place chance. Every hour of sunshine will help the speedy Min Flicka in her sprint assignment. She is expected to win easily it the track is firm. Selections; —
