Canterbury Horses Win Both Doubles

Horses from Canterbury stables were successful in both doubles at the Reefton

Trotting Club’s annual meeting yesterday. The T.A.B. double was won by Royal Fame, owned and trained by the Benny Brothers at Springston, and Loyal Tryax, trained at Weedons by T. C. Nyhan, The on-eourse double went to Worth Seein and Miss Step. The Royal Fame —Loyal Tryax double paid £64 Is 6d for £1 and the Worth Seein-Miss Step Double paid £44 10s for £l. The meeting was held in hot weather and the track was in excellent order. There was a very large attendance. On-course betting amounted to £21,084 10s, compared with £18,945 last year. Royal Fame followed the early leader, Stepson, at a slow pace for the first half-mile. Sonny Jim, Montage and Goldmount were the handiest of the others. N. S. Benny took Royal Fame to the front passing the stand the second time, followed by Alray, Sonny Jim, Harker, and Goldmount. Royal Fame was eased going along the back and he was third rounding the home bend.

In a thrilling finish between Royal Fame, Goldmount and Alray, the former finished best to win by half a length from Goldmount. Alray was a neck back third, followed a length and a quarter away by Montage, Battle Star, Stepson and Sonny Jim headed the others. Loyal Tryax led all the way In the F W Archer Handicap, and won comfortably by three-quarters of a length from an earlier winner, Miss Step, which had been penalised 24 yards. Results:—
