EGGSHARD TO BUY
Shortage In Wellington (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 30. Scores of shoppers in Wellington and surrounding districts found it difficult or impossible to buy eggs today. Wellington, Palmerston North, and Levin were affected by the shortage. A Wellington supermarket spokesman said it was one of the worst shortages of eggs he could remember.
A spokesman for Farm Products Co-operative, Ltd., of Levin, the egg suppliers for the Wellington area, said the shortage was because of “seasonal fluctuations.”
Mr R. Cowdrey, of the Egg Marketing Authority, denied there was a shortage. “Generally speaking, this has been one of the best years for distribution of eggs throughout New Zealand,” he said.
