YOUNG SCORES TENNIS UPSET

WELLINGTON.

The Auckland tennis player, B. Young, eliminated the 1966 New Zealand representative, O. Parun, of Wellington, in straight sets when the Wellington championships started, stuttered, and stopped on hardcourts yesterday.

The shocking weather reduced matches to a mere handful.

Three were completed In

the men’s singles, two in the women’s single, and two men’s matches and two women’s matches are in progress. M. Cox, of England, the number one seed, entered the quarter-finals with a 6-3, 4-6, 64, 6-4 win over G. Eliott, of Whangarei. Young controlled the ball well and became the aggressor as he moved to a 64, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Parun.

One of the unfinished matches from Wednesday is still in progress. D. B. Hawkes, who led D. Cassidy, 8- two days ago, now leads 9- 6-3, 4-6, 5-6, and is down 0-30 on his service. R. K. Hawkes moved into the last eight with a 6-4, 6-2 win over N. McAffer. In another unfinished match R. G. Clarke leads J. Mitchell 64, 1-1. . In the quarter-finals of the women’s singles, Mrs E. Rogers beat Miss J. Elliott, 6-2, 8-6, and Miss B. Vercoe beat Miss H. Ward, 6-2, 6-1.
