Poor Weather In Alps
(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, December 29.
More than 70 would-be climbers tonight are still hutbound in the Southern Alps waiting for the weather to lift.
Today hut occupancy fell slightly as time ran out for some of the climbers, as they had to return to the Hermitage before leaving for their homes.
According to the Mount Cook National Park Board’s chief ranger (Mr M. L. Burke) there were moderate to strong north-easterlies in the Alps today, and the weather was cloudy and cold.
Conditions since the start of the Christmas holiday have prevented any climbing.
