Dr. Vautier To Head New Contract Research Unit

Dr. C. Vautier has been appointed by the Institute of Economic Research to head the newly-established contract research unit, set up by the institute to handle such projects as forecasts of supply and demand, market appraisals, and forecasts of general economic conditions. Dr. Vautier was born and educated at Gisborne. He was a secondary schoolteacher before the Second World War and, after serving overseas, took charge of comnwcial teaching at Wellington Col-

lege. After five years in this position he joined the staff of Massey Agricultural College as a lecturer in economics and agricultural economics. On his return to Wellington in 1953 he was secretary, financial adviser, consultant and director in two organisations covering a wide range of interests.

At the Same time, Dr. Vautier lectured at Victoria University in economics, economic history and international trade. He has specialised in applied economics
