"The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND. Tried for his best at Takanini yesterday morning. Foxvale responded with a six furlongs which has seldom been surpassed in training. From a standing start in the gates he returned Imin 13sec. the last five in 59 4-ssec.
Foxvale is being preparedfor the Great Northern Derby next Monday. Whether R. J. Skelton rides him or keeps the mount on Star Belle will not be certain until the end of the week.
Pheroz Pride led Miss Misty by a length after running the last
half-mile in 48sec. Pheroz Pride went a mile and a quarter in the Queen Elizabeth II Plate at Paeroa last Saturday and she is evidently thriving. Dantana (Sargent) and Ahwahnee (Heasllp) were together finishing half a mile in 48sec. None went faster, and Dantana seems a good prospect to win his way from hack company during the Auckland meeting. Valiant Rebel (Peake), unlucky again to get a wide barrier position in the Newmarket Handicap, ran five furlongs in 60 2-ssec. He produced great pace in the middle stages and ran on impressively.
