RACING Stablemates Fit For Wingatui Campaign

Seminole, Kalimera and Danny Kaye are three fit runners G. S. Barr will saddle at Wingatui on Saturday. These Riccarton stablemates showed that they were making good progress for major engagements at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s cup meeting when they were galloped at speed in training yesterday.

Seminole, in the hands of C. T. Wilson, who will ride her in the Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap, ran six furlongs in style with Apache (D. Tucker). They ran the distance in 1:16 1-5, the last half-mile in 49 4-ssec and the last three furlongs in 37 l-ssec. Seminole was travelling well at the finish.

Kalimera (C. T. Wilson) led Danny Kaye by a neck after sprinting in from the half-mile in 49 3-ssec, the last three furlongs in 36 4-ssec. Kalimera will be Riccarton’s lone runner in the James Hazlett Gold Cup, and Danny Kaye will be one of three from this centre in the Flying Handicap, second leg of the main double.

Danny Kaye’s rivals will include Shipmate and Tumble which also shaped well during yesterday’s training. Shipmate (A. J. Stokes) took 50 2-ssec for his solo halfmile and came home from the three in 36 2-ssec. Tumble (A. H. Eastwood) ran his three furlongs in 36 3-ssec.

Shipmate’s stablemates, Hushaway and Pharasal, also showed a high standard of fitness for their Wingatui engagements. Pharasal (A. J. Stokes) joined Hushaway (B. D. Collins) for the last six furlongs of a mile. They came home together in Imin 17 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 50 4-ssec and the last three furlongs in 38sec. Hushaway’s mile took Imin 44sec.

Form Runner Hushaway is a form runner for the Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap. Pharasal will be reserved for the open sprint on the second day of the meeting.

Doctor Snoddy (A. Reuben) and Submerge (D. Tucker) were paired for seven furlongs in Imin 31 2-5 sec, the last half-mile in 52 2-ssec and the last three furlongs in 39 2-ssec. Doctor Snoddy will contest the Warrington Highweight and his stablemate will compete against the hack milers in the President’s Handicap on Saturday. Golden Vanity, a Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap lightweight, ran the first three furlongs of seven in 38 l-ssec, the first half-mile in 52 2-ssec and completed the distance in Imin 31 3-ssec. She was ridden by G. W. Mein, All of the fast work, with the exception of two barrier trials on the course proper and a six-furlong gallop by Royal Encounter and Anasiwa on the trial grass, was held on the plough. General Gilbert (L. Carr ston) and Early Dawn <J. Kerkvliet) ran the last seven furlongs of a mile together in Imin 29sec. They ran the first three in 37sec and the first four in 50 3-ssec. Both will race next in the Timaru Cup. Last Dip (N. T. Cowles), which is also engaged in the Timaru Cup, completed a similar task in Imin 29 4-ssec. She ran her first three in 37 2-ssec and the first four in 51 4-ssec.

Cup Prospect Gold Shower (G. W. Mein) led May Wyne (F. H. Skelton) by a neck after running the last seven furlongs of a mile in Imin 30 4-ssec. They were easing down near the end after speeding over the first three in 36 4-ssec and the first four in 49 4-ssec. If Gold Shower ran up to her track gallops she would be a cup prospect at Washdyke.

Ibn (D. Tucker) ran his first three furlongs in 38 l-ssec, his first four in 51 3-ssec and rounded off seven in Imin 31sec. He has his first open-class test in the Timaru Cup. Tsunami, which will run against the middle distance hacks on the first day at Washdyke, shaped well to lead the Timaru Cup lightweight, White Rajah (D. R. Tucker), by a length at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 28 3-ssec, the last halfmile in 50 l-ssec and the last three in 37 l-ssec. Tsunami was ridden by G. R. Gullery. Prince Callan (K. W. Quayle) took Imin 34 4-ssec for seven furlongs and came his last three in 39 4-ssec.

Pango (G. W. Mein) sped over five furlongs in Imin 3 2-ssec. She ran her first two in 25 4-ssec.

Royal Encounter (G. Gullery) and Anasiwa (M. King) were well matched in their six-furlong gallop. They took Imin 20 2-ssec, quickening to run the last half-mile in 51 4-ssec and the final three furlongs is 39 4-ssec. Port Bank (F. H. Skelton) gave Caprino (P. Williams) a start of two lengths and beat him as easily over six furlongs in Imin 17 l-ssec, the last half-mile in 50 2-5 sec and the last three furlongs in 37 4-ssec. Tixall (R. K. Moir) and Not Guilty (D. J. Thistoll) worked away from the mile and were joined by Julmark (G. W. Mein) and Rural (A. R. Swanson) near the five furlongs. They ran as one around the home turn but Julmark and Rural then drew away. They ended the gallop with a lead of six lengths. Their time for the last half was 50 3-5 sec, the same as Tixall and Not Guilty ran in their first half.

Drawing Away Talic (P. Williams) was half a length clear and drawing away from Starless (G. W. Mein) after half a mile in 51sec, the final three furlongs in 37 4-ssec.

Town Talk (A. R. Swanson) was schooled over two fences on the trial steeplechase course then beat Coral Prince (D. Tucker) easily over seven furlongs. Town Talk ran the distance in Imin 30 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 51 4-5 sec and the last three fur-

longs in 37 4-ssec. At the end he led by four lengths. Coseta (E. G. Low) and Dipmate (J. Kerkvliet) ran their first three furlongs in 37 3-ssec and were abreast at the end of seven in Imin 28 l-ssec. Malecite (G. W. Mein) took Imin 31 4-ssec for seven furlongs. Flair Go (F. H. Skelton), which joined in for the last six, led by half a length at the finish and ran her last three in 39 l-ssec.

G. R. Gullery rode the winners of both barrier trials. In the first heat he had his mount, Scuff, in front most of the way. She beat Grand Salute (W. H. Beck) by a length and a half. Sirtax (A Reuben), a similar distance back third, and Marlin Spike (D. Tucker), was next in a similar gap. In the second heat Jet Girl beat Carolina (D. Tucker) by half a length and Stageland (N. T. Cowles) was only a neck away third. Roman General, running on, was a length back fourth, just ahead of a fairly tight group.
