Humber Stars At Hastings

“The Press” Special Service HASTINGS. The Manawatu Cup candidate, Humber, worked impressively at Hastings yesterday morning in company with his stablemate. Grisbi, which is engaged in the Kelvin Handicap. The course proper trestles were 65 feet out and the going was fast . The plough was in good order. Hops (A. T. Jones) and Wimble (T. Whittington), a Danagh—Wilding youngster, covered three furlongs smartly in 37 2-ssec. A first-up winner iat Trentham in October, Hops • has not raced since, but she lis very fit and was most im- ■ pressive. Rag Doll (T. Whittington), which is in Hastings for the sprint the first day of the Hawke’s Bay meeting, sped over three furlongs in 36 3-5 sec which, considering the distance the trestles were out, was brilliant.

Humber (B. S. Dodds), which could be a threat in the Manawatu Cup if allowed his own rules in front, and Grisbi, which could race well in the Kelvin Handicap, took Imin 43 3-ssec for a solidly-run round, the last six taking Imin 20 3-ssec and the last three 40 3-5 sec. Humber was doing the better of the two and was impressive.
