Holiday Deliveries

Subscribers to “The Press” who intend to be away from their homes during the Christmas and New Year period are asked to notify “The Press” office immediately by telephoning 69-799 for any alteration they require in the delivery of their newspapers. Further information is advertised this morning on page 7.

Tree Sales More than 10,000 Coriscan pines have been sold from the Eyrewell State Forest for Christmas trees, mainly to charitable and welfare organisations for sale to the public. A total of 500,000 trees was available on land to be cleared and developed by the Lands and Survey Department for farming. Lots of 100 or more only are being supplied to persons prepared to cut and load the trees them-' selves. They will not be available after mid-day on Friday.

Warm Day The weather was warm and cloudy in Christchurch yesterday, with a maximum temperature of 65 degrees recorded at the weather office at Harewood at 1 p.m. The wind was a moderate easterly. At 6 a.m. at Harewood the temperature was 56 degrees, and it had risen to 59 degrees by 9 a.m. From noon until 4 p.m. the temperature remained at 64 degrees except for the one-degree rise at 1 p.m. The temperature recorded in the Botanic Gardens at 3 p»,m. was 63 degrees.

Improved Catch Captain F. A. Dawson, a Lyttelton Harbour Board tugmaster who is also a keen fisherman, caught a brown trout weighing 141 b in Lake Forsyth, during an hour’s tussle on Monday evening, using his Swedish A.B.U. rod with a 71b breaking strain nylon and a dragon fly nymph. The rod and reel were presented to Captain Dawson two years ago by A.B.U. after he had landed a 13jlb brown trout in the same lake.
