Sentence On Eynon

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 9. A sentence of six years’ imprisonment was imposed by Mr Justice McGregor today on Robert Ernest Eynon, aged 22, a bag-maker, when he appeared for sentence on a charge of manslaughter, arising from a fatal stabbing in a flat in Brougham street, Wellington, on September 25. Eynon, who had been charged with murdering Dexter Norman Webb, a journalist, was found guilty of manslaughter by a jury. His Honour said the circumstances surrounding the matter were almost inexplicable but considerable light had been shed on them by reports from a psychiatrist and the probation officer. It seemed Eynon suffered from emotional instability. Eynon had had no intention kill or do grevious bodilly harm. He had entered a house as an intruder, actuated by an obsession about drink and parties due to events in his early life. But he had entered a sleeping household unlawfully, and in an attempt to escape had stabbed a responsible citizen who was trying to give protection th members of the household.
