LAMB CONTEST IN LONDON
Success Of N.Z. Entries (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. All New Zealand entries were placed in the Royal Agricultural Society’s Commonwealth frozen lamb carcase competition in London yesterday. New Zealand entered six pens of three carcases in two weight ranges, three pens in lambs not exceeding 28 pound and three for lamb over 28 pound and not exceeding 36 pound. In the 29/36 pound class into which weight range the bulk of New Zealand’s prime export lamb falls, New Zealand entries took first, third and fourth prizes. In the class for lambs under 28 pound New Zealand took second, fourth and fifth prizes. Scotland won the championship pen of the show with heavier lambs over 36 pound. New Zealand was not entered in this section. However, the reserve championship was awarded to New Zealand’s winning entry in the 29/36 pound class. This pen was only half a point behind the Scottish championship pen. There were entries in the competition from Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Britain, and New Zealand. New Zealand entries were drawn from early lambs from Hawke’s Bay, Wanganui, Manawatu and Canterbury to make up composite entries for the competition. They were killed in October and flown to Britain.
