Dredge To Go
(From Our Own Reporter! WESTPORT, Dec. 9. The suction dredge, Eileen Ward, will be retired from service at W’estport, where she has been in commission for 56 years, apart from short periods on loan to other ports by the Marine Department. The heavy cost of refitting the vessel, estimated at £lOO,OOO, is believed to have influenced the decision. It appears doubtful that the department will be able to absorb in other work at Westport some of the 15 men who normally work the dredge.
Some members of the Westport Harbour Ad-
visory Committee say that the absence of a dredge on the bar could Impair the effectiveness of the harbour development works.
