TO CLEAR SLUMS
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 9. The Wellington City Council today announced an £ll million programme for the clearance and reconstruction of derelict housing in the Te Aro Flat area. Combining four planned reclamations and two new ones, the programme will cover 22) acres in seven city blocks. It will provide accommodation for more than 3500 people and put Wellington into the lead in urban renewal. The chairman of the council’s housing committee, Cr. D. G. Porter, said the programme would involve £6} million council expenditure, £1,150,000 Government subsidy and £3} million of private investment
