PUT INTO ORBIT
Multi-Purpose Satellite (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CAPE KENNEDY, Dec. 8. A burst of energy from an accelerator motor yesterday jockeyed a new multi purpose satellite into an apparently successful orbit above the Pacific, where it will test advanced techniques for space communications and weather forecasting.
Among the satellite’s goals are the first continuous weather pictures over one area of the globe, colour television transmission between the United States and the Far East and evaluation of a space communications system for aircraft. The 15471 b satellite was launched at the nose of an Atlas-Agena rocket.
