SUBSIDY OF £300

Horses For Perth

A subsidy of £3OO a horse would be paid by the New Zealand Trotting Conference to six selected horses from New Zealand in the InterDominion Championship series in Perth in February, the secretary of the conference (Mr J. Rowley) said yesterday. The subsidy would apply whether the horses travelled by sea or air and would be reducible by the amount in stakes won in Australia in excess of the equivalent of £lOOO in New Zealand currency, said Mr Rowley. To be eligible for the subsidy the horses will have to return to New Zealand within 60 days of the running of the Grand Final in Perth.

The conference was trying to arrange air transport to Sydney, but this was proving difficult because of the Qantas strike, said Mr Rowley. It was anticipated that sea travel would be available from Auckland early in January after the Auckland Cup meeting.
