FOUR HOURS OFF AIR
Rain Disrupts Radio Hauraki
ffi 1. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, December 7. Radio Hauraki was off the air for about four hours today after heavy rain caused the power supply to arc across a loading coil on the antenna. The trouble struck during the breakfast session, just before 9 a.m.
A new power transformer built in Auckland in about 12 hours was taken to the radio ship Tiri, anchored off Great Barrier Island this afternoon, and was being wired Into the equipment tonight. It will replace a transformer which failed some days ago and caused the station to continue broadcasting on reduced power.
The 50 foot aerial will be doubled in height this weekend by the addition of a temporary light-weight structure.
