Ice-Breakers Busy
The United States Coast Guard ice-breakers Glacier and Eastwind, are at present cutting a docking area at Hut Point, near McMurdo Station. Normally they would have arrived at McMurdo Sound earlier, but this season the wind has not helped to move the broken ice in the channel out to sea. It has remained in the channel and refrozen. The two ice-breakers have been kept hard at work recutting the channel through which cargo ships will later sail.
