NEW POST OFFICE
Deputation Planned The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce will ask the Post-master-General (Mr Scott) to meet a deputation as early as possible in the New Year in Christchurch to press for earlier construction of the Christchurch Chief Post Office and the proposed new postal centre. The chamber will also call on extra forces necessary to add to the deputation.
The chairman of the chamber’s postal committee (Mr J. Stewart) told the council last evening that unless earlier construction of these postal buildings was pressed for there would not only be this delay but further delay. Mr M. L. Newman said if something in the nature of a deputation was not made, tenders for the erection of a new postal centre for Christchurch would not be called till 1975.
Tenders for the chief post office in Christchurch were not expected to be called till 1970, said Mr Stewart.
Mr S. T. Murphy has been appointed assistant general manager of the Dairy Board. He has been director of marketing since 1961. Mr C. Patrick will be deputy assistant general manager of the board and Mr N. Owen director of marketing.—(PA.)
