Christchurch Zones

Five zones to be followed in converting Christchurch business machines to decimal currency have been laid down by the Decimal Currency Board. Conversion will begin on July 10 next year—the day the country switches to dollars and cents—at the south end of zone 1 and will work outwards progressively through zones 2,3, 4 and 5. The principal dividing line is the railway line. Most of Addington, with Sydenham, is in zone 3. Riccarton is in zone 4. Details of boundaries are:—

Zone 1: East of Manchester street, commence at Avon river and go south, follow railway line west; west of Montreal street as far as Avon river; follow river east to commencing point

Zone 2: East of Manchester street follow Avon river east; north of Linwood avenue; east of Aldwyns and Ensors roads to railway line; follow railway line west to boundary of zone 1.

Zone 3: South of railway line from the tunnel in the east to Islington in the west

Zone 4: North of railway line, but bounded in the east by Madras street and zone 1. Zone 5: North of railway line and zone 2; east of Madras street; also includes Sumner, New Brighton, Lyttelton, Diamond Harbour, Governor’s Bay and Belfast.
