Power Board Manager

Mr D. W. Harris, of Te Kuiti, has been appointed general manager of the North Canterbury Electric Power Board. Mr Harris is at present chief engineer of the Waitomo Electric Power Board. This was announced yesterday by the engineer-secretary (Mr A. Buckingham) who will retire next year.

Mr Harris was born in Christchurch, where he received his primary and secondary education. He completed one year’s study for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering at Canterbury University College in 1940, and for the next five years was on war service, partly with the R.N.Z.A.F. in New Zealand, and partly with the R.A.F. in Britain. He completed his studies for his engineering degree at Canterbury College in 1949. Mr Harris was employed for four years as assistant engineer of the South Canterbury Electric Power Board, and in November, 1953, was appointed chief engineer of the Waitomo Electric Power Board. He is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institution of Engineers, and an Associate Member of the Instiution the Electircal Engineers (London). Mr Harris is married, with three children.

He will begin duties with I the North Canterbury board I in April, 1967.
