The Queenstown Borough Council last night decided to hold a ratepayers’ referendum next year on whether to retain or demolish its old stone library building. The council had had about 100 letters and telegrams objecting to its plan to demolish the 90-year-old build-
Ing and had been advised by a special meeting to hold a poll. Ratepayers ■will have the choice of two plans.
One involves the demolition of the old library, which at present is a reading room, and the construction of a new building. The other would incorporate the old building with the planned new building.
