EASY WIN TO LINWOOD
Batsmen Fail Cashmere
Lack of application and the failure to apply even the basic batting techniques were the major contributions to Cashmere High School's outright loss to Linwood High School in the annual game at Cashmere yesterday.
Linwood, with steady bowling and splendid fielding, won by an Innings and 23 runs. The outstanding bowling performances were by P. Bhana, who bowled unchanged through Cashmere’s first innings to take eight wickets for 18 runs in 20.1 overs, and L. J. Cook, who bowled left-arm leg breaks for the first time in his career and took four wickets for four runs. Seven of his eight overs were maidens.
Cashmere’s only bright spot in an otherwise disapopintlng display was provided by the captain, G. Miller, who attacked strongly and sensibly in the second innings to score 43.
Scores: Linwood 203, Cashmere 74 (P. Bhana 8/18) and 106 (Miller 43; Cook 4/4, B. Bhana 3/48, P. Bhana 2/30).
