ABANDONED MATCH

Club Letter Received

A letter from the West-Uni-versity club (which was published in “The Press” last week) regarding the abandonment of a senior A match between West University and Riccarton was received and acknowledged by the management committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association last evening.

The letter refuted a claim made by Mr A. G. Duckmanton at an earlier meeting of the management committee that West-University had reprimanded its captain, B. F. Hastings, for his part in abandoning the match against Riccarton on November 19. The management committee resolved, on the motion of Mr D. B. Hughey, that it “regretted any personalities that may have been brought into the matter but is of the opinion that a match should not be abandoned at such an hour. , . His motion also mentioned “that the C.C.A. in no way criticises the preparation of pitches at Ham.” Defaulting.—The St. Al-bans-Teachers’ College 2B team advised it would be defaulting its games in the sixth, seventh and eighth rounds because most of its players were not resident in Christchurch.
