CHRISTMAS OPERETTA

A setting in a modern home is the introduction to a Christmas operetta being performed this year by younger members of Rutland chapel instead of the more usual Nativity play. Described as the “telling of the good news of the birth of the Saviour in song and drama,” the production has meant a lot of work for many young persons. Most of the words and musical arrangements have been written by one of the group. The language is everyday English and the music ranges from the traditional carol tunes to “pop.” There is even a protest song on taxes sung to the tune of “Little Boxes.”

The operetta will be on for two nights in the Rutland street chapel. The first night will be Saturday, December 10, at 8.15 p.m., and the second night will be eight days later on Sunday, December 18, at 7 p.m.
