Swordfish In Harbour

(N.Z. Press Association)

TAURANGA Dec. 6. Two independent witnesses this morning saw an eight-foot long swordfish leap from the waters of Tauranga Harbour off the Strand reclamation—only yards away from the busy heart of the city. “There is no doubt that it was a swordfish. I have seen dolphins, sharks, and seals in the harbour, but never before a swordfish,” said Mr T. Morell, caretaker of the Tauranga Yacht Club, who saw the deep-water fish leap twice. Two sharks, thought to be of the bronze whaler species and weighing between 350 and 4001 b, were caught on set lines from the trawler Sea Ranger as it lay alongside the Tauranga town wharf this morning.
