SUGGESTION SUPPORTED
Two Teachers’ Colleges The Board of Governors of Hagley High School supports the suggestion of the Post Primary 'Teachers’ Association that two teachers colleges be established in Christchurch. At the monthly meeting board members decided that there should be separate primary and a secondary teachers’ college, each with its own principal and staff but both constituted under one council. Mr R. G. Thompson said that in future primary schoolteachers who transferred to secondary schools should attend the secondary school teachers’ college when they transferred. Mr P. J. Halligan, the secretary of the board, said five local headmasters were trained as primary teachers and transferred to secondary schools with no further training. The headmaster (Mr T. R. Richards) said there should be some training for secondary schoolteachers which was specialised for secondary schools. He said intermediate schools would have to recruit teachers from both colleges.
