SAMARITANS IN KAIAPOI

Appointment Of Secretaries Fifty-four persons have come forward so far to serve in the Kalapoi Good Samaritan Society, it was reported to the first executive meeting. As 24 of these live north of the Kalapoi river, and 30 south, the Kalapoi area will be divided into two zones in the meantime. The chairman (Mr D .Ashby) said It was hoped more Samaritans would come forward in the Kainga-Stewart's Gully area. The secretaries appointed will contact their own groups of Samaritans and issue instruction sheets, as a guide for the first Jobs. Bona fide membership cards will be issued when available.

Each of the Kalapoi churches will be asked for an annual donation of £3, to meet administration costs, and an account will be opened with the Canterbury Savings Bank. The secretary of the Canterbury Council (Mr E. Hobson), who was present in an advisory capacity, said that all Samaritans are covered by a workers’ insurance.

It was decided that doctors, chemists, headmasters, welfare groups and grocers would be contacted to obtain name* of persons who may require as. sistance. Later it is intended to circularise the area, both for Jobs and further Samaritans.
