Loyal Knight Picked At Waikato Tonight

"The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND. Loyal Knight is likely to be the hardest to beat in the Waikato Free-for-all, first leg of the T.A.B. double at Claudelands tonight. Loyal Knight had a wretched run on Saturday night in the McMillan Memorial, his first race for more than six weeks.

The extra three furlongs and a half tonight could favour Loyal Knight. He has shown himself to be one of the best young staying pacers in the North Island. The McMillan Memorial winner, Three Jacks, will not be at such long odds this time but there is doubt about his ability to run out a solid two miles. His best form has been shown at shorter distances.

There is sure to be heavy backing for Stephen Water, a sound stayer which finished a creditable third in the McMillan Memorial.

Others assured of strong support include Bill Hanover, Part Time and Poroti Pride.

Regal Hal looks a fine prospect for the second leg, the Claudelands Stakes. He is one of the fastest three-year-olds in the north and the turning track will suit him.

Notable among Regal Hal’s rivals are Miles Gentry, Ellimac and Dark Imp. The weather seems settled and the track will be fast.
