STORE FOR BETTER
Capacity Of 2700 Tons A cool store to hold 2700 tons of butter will be built by the Tai Tapu Central Coop Dairy Company, Ltd., on a property next to its factory in Moorhouse avenue which was formerly occupied by Farmers’ Machinery Exchange. Tenders have been called for the 28,000-square-foot building which will be built of reinforced concrete and concrete masonry with concrete floors and steel framed roof. The general manager of the company (Mr J. G,. Dunstan) said it was hoped that the store would be in use by next October. Until now the company has stored butter at Lyttelton in what was the export cool store, but no butter has been exported from the South Island for some years. When the land next door became available it was decided to go ahead with a new store and the company would then have all its butter under its own control, said Mr Dunstan.
The Lyttelton Harbour Board has not decided on the future of the cool store at Lyttelton when it is not required for butter.
