School Yachting To Linwood
By winning the final race of the series in fine fashion yesterday, the Linwood High School crew of D. le Page and G. Sauer took the interschool yachting blue ribband, the Peter Mander Trophy, from the holder, Christchurch Boys’ High School. This is only the second complete year that the trophy has been contested. Le Page and Sauer are the normal Junior Cherub crew in Kuaka, at present second on points in this class of trials. In the light conditions they were too good for Ineson and Jones (Boys’ High). Some of the spinnaker work was particularly impressive in this class. With a total of 81 boats on the water, school yachting is no longer insignificant. Although there were many experts from the clubs, there were also many beginners —a remark heard at Morten's jetty from a Junior Cherub skipper who could not quite lay the mark and hit it — ‘•l've hit the mark, what do I do now?” There was also excellent racing in the privately owned Junior Cherub race, won by B. Hanlon and A. Smith. The 15-year-old T. Blanchard (Riccarton) showed the form of a junior champion in the Moth In the P class, N. England, who had led convincingly for most of the race, was finally beaten by B. Trethewey.
