VALUABLE LEAD
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.PA) EAST LONDON. The South African XI gained a valuable 117-run first innings lead over the Australians at East London yesterday, the third day of play in the match. The Australians, 7/217 overnight, were all out for 256 after an hour’s batting yesterday morning. The Australians gained a quick break-through when the South African XI began its second innings, McKenzie getting the captain. Goddard, caught behind the wicket for six.
At lunch, the score was one wicket down for 18.
