Ultimatum On Huts
Owners of a number of whitebaiters’ and fishermen’s huts in the Ashley riverbed, near Waikuku Beach, have been given until tomorrow to remove them. The Rangiora County Council has given public notice that unless all “sub-standard structures” in the riverbed are removed on or before December 7, they will be demolished and any material disposed of. The council decided early this year to seek the removal of the huts. In giving its support to their removal, the North Canterbury Catchment Board has advised that the huts were erected without approval.
