Parties For Christmas

TOWNSWOMEN In a gaily decorated hall the president of the Addington Townswomen’s Guild, Mrs L. Coote, welcomed members and friends to the guild’s Christmas party. Specially invited guests were Mrs A. Thomson, Mrs R. Alison, M. McNae and Mrs R. Mathewson. An enjoyable programme was presented by the singing and drama circles, led by Mrs M. Thomson. The arts and crafts circle displayed work. SOROPTIMISTS Twenty countries were represented by about 75 members and guests at a Christmas party held by the Soroptimist Club of Christchurch at Elizabeth House last evening.

Because it was also a celebration to mark the Soroptimist movement’s International Day, which falls this month, overseas students and new settlers in Christchurch had been invited.

The guests of honour included the Mayoress (Mrs G. Manning), who wore the national dress of Wales, and Miss Lilian Whitehurst, from England. Other guests originally came from Holland, Ghana, Greece, Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, Indonesia, Russia, Norway, Italy, France, Hong Kong, Thailand, Latvia, England, Australia, Wales, and Scotland.

BUSINESS WOMEN The Christchurch Federated Business and Professional Women’s Club held an end-of-year dinner party at the Manhatten last evening, attended by about 56 members and friends. They were welcomed by the president (Miss T. G. Eldridge). A variety programme, arranged by Mrs E. Dickson, included novelty items, group singing, carols and the cutting of a Christmas cake.
