“Amahl”
Sir, —Menotti’s little Christmas opera has ended a successful season. Your critic reviewed the opening performance, when Paddy Burgin played the role of Amahl, and fitting tribute was paid to him. Since . then, Stephen Creese has several times played the role with artistry and feeling. It is not easy to sing the part through such a little gem of song and story as has just been presented. Master Stephen well deserved the ovation given him when Elisabeth Hellawell, the star who lifted the cast to such success, so graciously presented him for the plaudits of a delighted theatre.— Yours, etc., NOEL. December 5, 1966.
