58 Volunteers Abroad
New Zealand now has 58 volunteers at work in Asia and the Pacific, according to the first issue of “VSA,” a magazine issued by the New Zealand Council for Volunteer Service Abroad. “New Zealanders are slowly becoming aware that practical development work must be carried out in our less fortunate neighbouring countries at a vastly increased rate, and that New Zealand can and must play a leading role,” the magazine states. Volunteer vacancies in India, Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo and the Pacific Islands are listed, and an article describes a scheme to provide drinking and irrigation water to 14 villages in north-east Thailand.
